The World’s Scariest Haunted House in Littleton, Colorado is what we would call a classic style haunted house. It reminds us of how haunts from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s must have been. Like a good classic horror movie, haunts like this one will never go out of style. It’s got great vintage vibes with very minimalist yet effective sets, props, lighting, and scare tactics. The outside of the haunt is nothing fancy, no strobe lights or loud dj music, just a simple wood facade painted to look like an old farmhouse. The inside is dark and the path is tight and narrow giving that enclosed claustrophobic feeling. Again, nothing fancy but that’s why it works!
One of the things World’s Scariest has always done well is to get the fear instilled in you right away. They concentrate on giving you the best jump scares. There are a ton of actors in here and they are hidden extremely well! With the dark lighting it’s impossible to tell what’s real and what isn’t. You walk along a dark corridor and suddenly a window opens up in one of the walls and a head pops out and screams! You walk into a room full of what appear to be statues but..wait,did that one move? This haunt perfectly executes these classic scare tactics and they are so effective, the haunt doesn’t need much else. The creators here embody the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and we couldn’t agree more. There is a reason haunted houses became a popular Halloween activity in the 1970’s, by utilizing simple scares and very minimalist sets and props. This old school styling of haunting lives on at World’s Scariest and it’s one of our personal favorites because of the nostalgia we experience here. Not to mention an older version of this haunt with a different name happens to be where we had our first date. So, I guess it’s safe to say this haunt will always hold a special place in our hearts.
